Reiki

the Usui Method of Natural Healing

Reiki is one of the oldest healing arts. A simple hands-on healing technique, a form of energy medicine.

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei which means “Universal Life” and Ki  which means “Energy”.

Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things, it maintains all organic life. It is our life force, our vitality; our energy. Like electromagnetic waves we do not see them, but they exist.

Reiki is how the seed turns into a tree.

A Reiki session is usually 60 to 90 minutes long. A discussion will always take place before the treatment begins to give an opportunity to share any particular issues or problems the client is currently experiencing and to ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. For the actual treatment, the client rests comfortably on their back with their shoes removed. Unlike massage therapy no clothing is removed, the client is always fully clothed; loose, comfortable clothing is suggested. A session can either be hands-on, where I will apply a light touch in certain positions on the body, or hands-off where I will hold my hands slightly above the client' s body. The body in its innate intelligence will then simply draw in what it needs.

A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it can assist the body in creating space to facilitate and enhance the body´s capacity for self-regulation and healing. Essentially Reiki gives back to you what you already fundamentally are: Universal Life Force Energy. It is like recharging yourself with what, on the deepest level, you have always been.

As a practitioner I often get asked if one has to feel or be sick so that an energy treatment is beneficial.  And it is actually the contrary. Reiki is one of the best preventive "medicines" on earth and it is recommended to approach a treatment with an attitude of maintaining health and wellbeing, rather than waiting to feel unwell and then coming for a session. I have always resonated deeply with that approach. We often go and see doctors or therapists when we are sick and the body has already created a disease. In other parts of the world people actually go and see their doctor or therapist to maintain their health and wellbeing. I deeply believe that we have to go back to taking responsibility for the health of our bodies and minds, we have to relearn taking care of the home we live in. Treatments like Reiki empower you to become healthy and remind you of your wholeness by applying the very energy you are made of.
